In the presence of RbOH, rubidium iodide can be oxidized by chlorine to form rubidium iodide insoluble in water.

Raw materials for rubidium metal and all kinds of rubidium salts, production of catalysts, miniature high-energy batteries and crystal scintillation counters. Medically used to treat syphilis.
